5 Most Bizarre Moments at the Jerusalem Post Conference

In no particular order, here they are.

1) Jack Lew Gets Booed

First to mind, of course, is the hostile reception meted out to Secretary of Treasury Jack Lew. All he said before the first wave of boos started was: “We recognize that the threats to the state of Israel’s existence today are real. They are complex and they must to be taken seriously — that’s why the Obama administration has done so much in the past six years to advance Israel’s security.” From that moment on, every time Lew mentioned the President’s support for Israel or backed the diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear facilities, he was interrupted. Using Ebola To Scare Israelis Off African Migrants

Nine workers at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport lost their jobs yesterday because they refused to interact with passengers who arrived from Ethiopia. 

The workers, contractor employees of the Israel Airports Authority, were asked to hand out Ebola information pamphlets to the Ethiopian Airlines passengers and to direct them to an area where they could have their temperatures checked. The workers were reluctant to do so out of fear that they would contract Ebola. They argued that they weren’t properly protected. Read the rest »

Is Al-Qaeda really ‘alive and well’ in SA?

One month ago the Daily Maverick published an article by De Wet Potgieter headlined  “Al Qaeda is alive and well in South Africa“.  A second part was promised, but has still not been published.

The article implicated a Muslim family, cousins Farhad and Junaid Dockrat, in the terrorist group’s activities. The article also criticised the South African Government for not properly investigating the Dockrats. Potgieter wrote, “US and British intelligence have warned the South African authorities to stop ‘pussyfooting’ with intelligence regarding international terrorists activities in South Africa.” Read the rest »
